Karate Inspiration: During my school days I used to watch a lot of movies. One of the movies that inspired me to Karate was Bruce Lee's ENTER THE DRAGON. Introduction to Karate: I was introduced to Shotokan Karate in the 1980's through a friend of mine named Shafi (Managing Director - Sabka Group). Shafi and I took privet lessons under Mr. Syed Ali, a Grand Student of Shihan Bonnie Roberts of Sri Lanka. Intension: My intension was to become an action hero in the movies. Though in the mid 90's I acted in four Malayalam movies with South Indian Actors Mamootty, Suresh Gopi, Babu Antony & Ganesh Kumar, I realized that film industry was not my cup of tea. My 1st Club: In 1983, at the age of sixteen I established my First Karate Club in Tirur (Kerala State, India) under the Leadership of Shihan Bonnie Roberts affiliated directly to WUKO (Japan). Champion: I was the youngest Black Belt to win the 1987 All India Shotokan Cup Grand Championship Trophy in Heavy Weight and Open Weight category. In 1990, 1991 & 1992, I won the Kata Title. |
My Dad at the age of 73 (Praise be to Allah) |
31 years back I was thrown out of this school |
ISKKA'89: In 1989, with the support of Sir.Tom Hibbert MBE (Amateur Martial Association - London), Japanese Master Shihan Sadashige Kato (JKA) and Prof. Don Jacob (Purple Dragon University of Martial Arts - Trinidad & Tobago), I formed an independent association called ISKKA'89. ISKKA stands for International Shotokan Karate Kodokai Association. KODOKAI means "School of the Ancient Ways". In 1990 I built a Residential Karate School in Tirur named "ISKKA Hombu" with facility for students to stay and learn karate. Currently ISKKA'89 (Qatar) is affiliated to Kancho Hirokazu Kanazawa's SKIF (Shotokan Karate-do International Federation) Japan. It has branches in Qatar, UAE (under Sensei Fairoz) & India (under Sensei Manilal, Sensei K.J. Khan & Sensei Ali T. Chandabhai). Fight4Bike: Fight4Bike is an All India Karate Championship introduced by ISKKA in 1995. It is the only Karate Championship in India to award Motor Bikes (Hero Honda) to it's winners in different Age Groups. Besides Motor Bike winners also receive specially designed 42 inch tall Karate Trophy imported from USA. In 2010 Three bikes were awarded and in 2011 Two bikes. For details click here. My Family and Me My parents hail from Tirur (Kerala State in India). My dad is an Ex-Service Men and an ex-Kuwait Airways engineer. During his younger days he was a weight lifting champion and represented Indian Air Force several times. Today, in his 70's he spends his retired life with my mom in Tirur. Birth: I was born in Delhi in a running ambulance on the way to the hospital with no doctors onboard other than my dad. He played the role of a gynecologist. School/College: I studied in Kendriya Vidyalaya (Central School) in North & South India. I loved going to the Cinemas more than my studies. I was thrown out of the school while in 8th Grade for cutting lessons. Later I had to join a local High School in Tirur. Wedding: In April 1991, at the age of 24, I got married to Laila. Today we are blessed with two daughters Henna & Suhana; both studying in Doha (Qatar) Siblings: Elder brother - Dr. Migdad, runs his own business "Ashiyana Rabbit Farm" in Tirur. Elder sister - Nuzaiba Abbas Ali, is a housewife she had her own business "Henna Beauty Parlour". Younger sister - Banu Latheef has her own business "Henna Home Science & Beauty Parlour". |
