Training in karate teaches us not only self-defense but, to respect others as well as ourselves. We train our body to be strong, and our mind and spirit to be patient, in order to become the best human beings we can be. Karate is a spiritual endeavor, a way to develop a person as an individual. Everything we learn in the dojo (training hall), should be applied to everyday life. Karate training is not always easy. Often times it can be very difficult and demanding. This is also true of life. If we can overcome obstacles in our training, it enables us to have strong character to do the same in our everyday lives.
The very essence of karate, the main purpose of training - is all about improving ourselves. We must always work hard at this. When we take responsibility to become persons of good character and integrity, we will be doing our part to make the world a better place, which in turn can help to bring peace to the world. This was the legacy of Master Gichin Funakoshi, the father of modern Karate. It is also my personal goal, and the goal of Iskka'89, to teach not only karate techniques, but moreover, to do my best to guide our members in the understanding of what it means to be a true martial artist. A true martial artist constantly strives to be a good human being.
It is my sincere hope that all of our members do the same and pass on Master Funakoshi's philosophy for generations to come.
Iskka'89 (School of Character Development) is a committed team of Martial Arts and Fitness Instructors devoted to bringing the benefits of Martial Arts and character development to children in schools & clubs across India & United Arab Emirates (Dubai).
We've been helping children like yours to gain the character building tools found only in Martial Arts training. We have developed a program based on traditional Shotokan Style Karate, called Karate for Kids. The Karate for Kids system is based on a lifetime learning concept in addition to technical skills.
Tools like perseverance; positive mental attitude, self-discipline & goal setting aren't always communicated effectively in school, and are also often missing in sports. This is unfortunate, because teaching children these basic life skills, at a young age, can have a HUGE impact on the degree of success & happiness that kids achieve in late life.
Once you learned to ride a bike, you never forgot. Likewise, the skills and habits of success, once learned, become a part of your child forever. We have witnessed this time and time again with children who have experienced our programs, and we've had countless parents tell us of the changes they've seen in their children after only a short time at Iskka'89 (School of Character Development).
You know that most martial arts use different colored belts to show progress and rank. At Iskka'89 (School of Character Development), our belt system is specifically designed to help your child set and achieve attainable goals. This type of structured achievement system is perhaps the greatest program for teaching goal setting that has ever been devised for children. Based on the principle of steady consistent improvement, self confidence and improved self esteem are developed through a series of winning experiences.
Set a goal, Have a plan, Work hard towards it's achievement, Persevere until you reach the goal, Set higher goals.
The key, of course is to make sure that students win. How? By having a curriculum which is broken down in small do-able chunks. When children set a goal, work for it, and then achieve it, they start to believe in themselves!
When parents come in to see about our classes, we ask them what benefits they hope to see their children receive from their Martial Arts training. By far the most common response is "discipline". But we find that after talking to them, what they really want for their child is "SELF Discipline".
There's a very significant difference. Discipline is when you tell your child to clean his/her room or he/she won't be allowed to go out and play with his/her friends. Self-discipline is when your child cleans his or her OWN room without being nagged. At Iskka'89 (School of Character Development), we strive to instill the attribute of SELF-discipline in children in number of ways.
If self-discipline becomes a habit for children at an early age, it can have a tremendous impact on the outcome of their lives and how successful they become!
In addition to the powerful, empowering attributes listed above, you can also monitor your child develop: Courage, Power & Focus.
After each belt test your child will be awarded with an Iskka'89 (School of Character Development) Certificate. A Japanese Certificate signed by World Shotokan Grand Master Shihan Hirakazu Kanazawa (10th Dan Black Belt) will also be awarded to your child at an additional fee.
At Iskka'89 (School of Character Development), we focus on safety. We set high standards. We pride ourselves on quality. From Instruction to quality control to customer service, we've standardized our programme to ensure high standards at all levels of our system. It's the mission of our since 1989 and remains the mission that qualifies and certifies us even to this day.
At Iskka'89, we have a philosophy about our system that goes beyond high quality expectations. Our approach to teaching and preparing our students is a little like being on a regular discovery mission - taking what we already know and making it better. That's why we are among the best.
Much of our school success comes as a result of the huge commitment of our Instructors loyalty. Their efforts return to us more than 10-fold. Today, Iskka'89 has progressed from 1 (One) Instructor to over 25 in various locations and from 1 student to well over 1000s and a good number of them have been with us for more than 10 to 15 years (even before the formation of Iskka'89). This is a strong factor in why our system is efficient and the quality at our school so consistent.
As we continue to progress, we make these commitments to our students and fans.
Master Funakoshi Gichin, the founder of the Shotokan school of Karate-do, wrote the following maxims. The Dojo Kun are not numbered, but all begin with the exclamation word: "Hitotsu", meaning "One!" to emphasize the equal importance of each precept. Every student is required to study and learn the Dojo Kun.
